The mosque is believed to be built in 1634 by Muhsin bin Ali al-Jazaeri, one of the most famous scholars of the Ottoman period of Iraq. The mosque was later reconstructed in 1954 using a rectangular design. The most unique and defining feature of the mosque is its 84 columns, which form the internal shapes of the four-part prayer hall.
