Saint Ignatius Parish Church is a Catholic church located in Annapolis, Maryland. History- The original St. Ignatius Church was founded in 1642 by Jesuits who had been sent to Maryland by Blessed John Ogilvie. By 1658, the population of St. Ignatius had grown so large that it was necessary to build a larger church, and so the cornerstone was laid in 1659. Through the years, the church was destroyed and rebuilt several times, but the current building dates from 1858. Facts- The church building is a National Historic Landmark and is constructed of schist, a type of rock found in the region. The church also contains a bell tower, which is the only one of its kind in Annapolis. Services- St. Ignatius Parish Church offers Mass in a variety of languages, including English, Spanish, French, Polish, and Vietnamese. The church also offers a variety of other services, such as spiritual direction, retreats, and ministries for various groups, including married couples, divorced and separated persons, families, and seniors.
