The Masjid Raya Singkawang is one of the oldest mosques in the city of Singkawang, and was built in 1693. This mosque, also called Mosque Besar Singkawang, is a two-story structure and is noted for its square-shaped architecture. The mosque is characterized by its large, white domes that are adorned with colorful ceramic tiles and its two, tall minarets. The center of the building is surrounded by a large covered porch, which is supported by four large pillars. Inside, the mosque is decorated with intricate artwork, with colorful carpets on the floors and ornately painted walls. The mosque’s interior is illuminated by an enormous crystal chandelier that hangs from the ceiling. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
