Christ the King Cathedral, Sintang is a Catholic cathedral located in Sintang, West Kalimantan province of Indonesia. Founded in 1909 and formerly known as St. Mary Cathedral, this cathedral is the oldest church in Sintang. In 1967, its name changed to Christ the King Cathedral and it was designated as the cathedral of the Diocese of Sintang. It is made up of a basilica-style building with three towers and is considered both an architectural and religious heritage site. It is one of the best churches in Indonesia which you must visit.

History:

In 1909, the Belgian Vicar Apostolic of Dutch India, Mgr. D. T. van der Borght erected St. Mary Church in Sintang. The church was dedicated to the Virgin Mary as the patron saint. In August 1967, the church was renamed down to the present name, Christ the King Cathedral. Following the transfer of the Diocese of Sintang from Dutch India to Indonesia, it was approved by the Vatican Council to be the principal church of the Diocese. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Indonesia.
