Architecture:

Al-Muttaqin Mosque (Mesjid Al-Muttaqin) in Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia, was built in the 19th Century during the reign of Sultan Thaha Syaifuddin, the last Muslim leader of the Sultanate of Siak. The design of the mosque reflects the unique style of Islamic architecture of west Sumatra at the time. The main entrance of the mosque is located on the northern side and is made of carved doors made of hardwood with ahlan (wooden platform) as a porch and panggung (small platform) situated in front of the main door to the house of worship. The main structure of the mosque is an octagonal shaped building with three levels - the top tier (pital dome), the middle tier (jilid lower) and the bottom tier (tanah atas). This design allows for long spiral staircases to reach the top level, making it easier to ascend the building. The interior of the mosque is decorated with monumental walls in stucco with arabesque ornamental motifs and colored tiles arranged in geometric shapes. The main dome is also decorated with ornamental motifs and contains four balconies. Inside the mosque, there is a mihrab for prayer. The mosque is renowned for its beauty and elegance and is seen as an important cultural site representing the heritage of the city of Padang. It is a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
