Overview:
Located in Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu, the Unfinished Rock Cut Cave Temple North of Krishna Mandapa, Mamallapuram is one of the oldest temples in India. Its built in the 7th century AD in the dravidian style of architecture, during the Pallava Dynasty, when the reign of Narasimha Varman also know as Mamalla was at its zenith. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The temple's entrance has two lofty and ornately carved Dvarapalas. On the side walls of the entrance, one can find shallow niches on the rock walls, with the sculptures of Shiva, Brahma, Durga, Vishnu and other gods, who are part of Vaishnavism, Shaktism, and Shaivism. Additionally, there are also inscriptions and carvings from the Sangam period, which depict scenes from Ramayana, Mahabharata and other stories.
