Overview:
mb North of Daryakhan’s tomb is located in Kashmir’s Hazratbal area. It is believed to be the burial site of Shah Ismail, a 16th century Sufi saint who dedicated himself to the teachings of the Islamic faith. The burial site is located on top of a small hill and can be accessed through a flight of stairs leading up to the grave. The tomb is marked with a signboard showing the name of Shah Ismail. To the north of the tomb lies a path leading up to the nearby Khir Bhawani temple, one of the most sacred temples of Kashmiri Hindus. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The tomb has two intricately carved marble pillars along its entrance. The walls of the tomb are decorated with Quranic verses and hymns written in Persian as well as various symbols of Islamic culture. The tomb is also surrounded by various kinds of trees and shrubs. The tomb is believed to be one of the oldest monuments in Kashmir, estimated to have been constructed sometime in the 16th century.
