Overview:
Remains Of Aivar Koil, Kodumbalur is a magnificent heritage structure in Tanjore district, Tamil Nadu. It is also known as Aivar Koil Temple. The temple complex is said to be one of the oldest structures in South India and was built by the Pandyan dynasty. It houses a number of ancient monuments such as temples, vimanams, mandapams and pillared structures. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The main temple of the complex includes the Ramar temple, the Viswanathar temple, the Sivagami Amman and the Garuda Temple. There is also a big tank, similar to the one at Kancheepuram. The Ramar temple is said to be the main and the oldest temple in the complex. The Viswanathar temple was built in the 13th century AD and the Sivagami Amman temple was built in the 16th century. How to Reach: Remains Of Aivar Koil, Kodumbalur is around 5 km from the Tanjore railway station. The temple is also close to the Kanchipuram-Chennai highway and can be reached easily by road.
