Overview:
Rajpath is a grand avenue in New Delhi, India, crossing National Capital Territory of Delhi and connecting India Gate in the east and Rashtrapati Bhavan in the west. Constructed during the British Raj, it is also known as the Kingsway. It is one of the India’s most important thoroughfares as it is the site for many political, cultural, and religious events. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The prominent features of the Rajpath Site are: • India Gate – located at the Rajpath's eastern end, this war memorial is a heavily visited monument. It was built in 1931 in the memory of those who laid down their lives in the line of duty for the country. • Rajpath – this grand avenue starts from Rashtrapati Bhavan, runs for almost 4 km, and ends at the India Gate. • Rashtrapati Bhavan – this is the official residence of the President of India and one of the most important buildings in the country.
