Mansa Devi Temple, Dholbaha Overview Mansa Devi Temple is one of the most famous and revered temples in Punjab. It is located in the town of Dholbaha in Sangrur district, about 25 km south of Sangrur. It is dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Mansa Devi. Mansa Devi is considered to be a Goddess of fertility, blessing devotees with sons, wealth and happiness. Prominent Features The temple is a popular destination for Hindu pilgrims and visitors from all over the world. It has been host to many important festivals, including the annual Shivratri and Navratri. The temple complex is spread over an area of 6 acres and consists of three domes- the central dome and two smaller domes. In the central dome is the main idol of Mansa Devi, flanked on both sides by two smaller idols of Nand-Nagar and Nagar-Dev. The temple also houses a Shivalinga (a symbol of Lord Shiva) and several murthis of other Gods and Goddesses. History According to legends, Mansa Devi was the born from the sweat of Lord Shiva. She is said to be the demure wife of Lord Shiva. She is believed to have been the patron deity of the royal family of the princely state of Patiala. The original temple was built by the royal family in the 11th century. Over time, it has been renovated and expanded. Interesting Facts The temple is located at the foot of a hill. The temple pond is believed to be the source of a holy river called Vishaye. There is a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva near the temple, which is said to have been built by the Pandavas (one of the five principal characters in the Mahabharata). Every year, a festival called Haldi Mahotsav is celebrated here in honour of Mansa Devi. During this festival, pilgrims take part in a special offering called Haldi Darshan. The temple also offers puja services, where devotees can seek the blessings of the Goddess.
