The structure stands entirely apart from the massive fort complex and provides a scenic view of the countryside as well as the Bijapur city. History:
The masterpiece of architecture, the Lila Gumbaj tomb is adorned with geometric designs and small Islamic paintings. The grand elevation of the building is largely composed of decorative walls and panels, with circles and other elegant designs along the borders. Being an octagonal-shaped structure, the tomb features eight pillars carved with intricate detailing, eight arches and eight roof panels with decorative motifs. The building has an impressive star-shaped design along the roof and walls with medallions imprinted all around the structure. Lila Gumbaj was built in 1659 by the Adil Shahi rulers. It is believed that the mausoleum is a tribute to the wife of Ali Adil Shah II, the seventh ruler of the Deccan Sultanate. The first few tombs, including the tomb of Ali Adil Shah II himself, were built around the mausoleum to mark the final resting place of their royal family and respected individuals. Lila Gumbaj
