Overview:
KorangunathaTemple is an ancient Hindu temple located at Srinivasanallur near Pallipatti in Tamil Nadu. The temple enjoys the architectural marvels of the 12th century Chola period and thus is a part of grand heritage. It is believed to be built by the Cholas then ruling the region. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Korangunatha Temple houses some of the beautiful architectures including the 12th century stone sculptures. The main deity here is Lord Shiva and the main shrine is a stylish structure with huge gopuram and mandapam. The corridor of the temple complex is filled with numerous other carved sculptures and images. There is also a shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu inside the temple in which many carvings depict the scenes from Ramayana and depicts Lord Shiva in various incarnations.
