Jore Bangla Temple In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
The Jore Bangla Temple stands in the center of Bankura district and is surrounded by a beautiful lake. It is believed to have been built in the 16th century by the King Lakshman Sen and renovated by subsequent rulers of Bengal. The central deity of the temple is Goddess Shashthi, who is also known as Jorebangla. The temple is also known for its colorful terracotta designs and decorations. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Jore Bangla Temple is an outstanding example of Pandua or Kasthopur architecture. It is believed to have been raised by King Lakshman Sen. The temple is built from brick and is a three-storeyed structure. The lower floor has the shrine of Goddess Shashthi and the central floor has the shrines of Lord Shiva and Goddess Kali. The topmost floor is said to have been added later by King Raghunath Singha. The temple is decorated with colorful terracotta designs and reliefs.
