,Jijamata’s Samadhi is a square shaped structure located at Pune in Maharashtra, India. It was constructed as a memorial to honour Jijau, the mother of Maratha King Shivaji. This architectural wonder is known for its four towers which stand tall in the sky. It was designed during the essence of Indian and Mughal architecture and is made of red stones. This memorial was constructed by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj himself back in the year 1658. The four towers represent the four sons of Jijau and symbolise the four directions of the compass. Each tower stands for strength and power and is around 40 feet tall. The western and eastern towers here, are believed to be the tallest ones and are at a height of 50 feet. The southern and northern towers here stands at a height of 40 feet. The panoramic view of Pune city which can be seen from this Samadhi has been attracting tourists in large numbers. It is believed to be highly captivating and the city lights provide a wonderful backdrop to the structure. The Samadhi is also known for its beautiful interiors and intricate designs. Today, the Samadhi is known as a symbol of courage and strength. It holds great importance in Pune as it is a symbol of the Maratha Empire and the great warrior Shivaji Maharaj.
