Overview:
Idols and Remains of the Jain Temple, Letchumanpatti is located in Tirupattur district, Tamil Nadu, India. It is a protected archaeological site. This temple is said to be built in the 12th century. It is one of the few surviving Jain monuments in Tamil Nadu. This temple is dedicated to Adinath, the first Jain Tirthankar. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
This temple offers many prominent features for the pilgrims who visit it. It houses a five-hooded snake found near its entrance gate. Above the gate is an idol of Lord Adinath seated in Padmasana amid other idols of Jain Tirthankaras, goddess Padmavati, coins, sculptures of Yaksha and Yakshini, and Adinath. The temple is believed to be built by some of the earliest Jains in Tamil Nadu during the 12th century. It was destroyed during the invasion of the Delhi Sultanate of the 15th century, but it was rebuilt with the help of the Nayak dynasty in the 16th century. This temple was further extended with the addition of four walls and 16 pillars.
