esvara Temple: Hoysalesvara Temple is a 12th century Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Halebidu, Karnataka. Built by King Vishnuvardhana of the Hoysala Empire, it is an exemplary example of Hoysala art and architecture. The temple is renowned for its intricate carvings and sculptures. The temple stands today in all its grandeur and magnificence in the backdrop of the remnants of the Hoysala kings who once ruled the region. History:
The temple is famed for its intricate and exquisite carvings and sculptures. The outer walls are covered with hundreds of scenes from Ramayana, Mahabharata, Udayana, and other Hindu legends. The temple has two main shrines: one for Lord Vishnu, and the other for Lord Shiva. There are also shrines for Lord Ganesha and Lord Subrahmanya within the complex. The construction of the temple was initiated in 1121 CE by King Vishnuvardhana of the Hoysala dynasty, who wanted to build it in memory of his victory over the Cholas at Talakad.
