Overview:
Bhata is an ancient game of strategy believed to have originated in India. It is a two-player game that involves plotting out strategies and is somewhat similar to the game of chess. The game is played by moving pieces on a 19x19 grid. It is believed that the game was derived from the game of Go. Hathi Bhata This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
• Players take turns for the moves. • Instead of pieces, special stones known as the ‘Hathi’ and the ‘Bhata’ are placed on the board. • Each player must try to reduce the number of stones controlled by their opponent to zero, or capture their opponent’s king if possible. • The game is won by the player who can either reduce their opponent’s number of stones to zero, or capture their opponent’s ‘king’ or ‘raja’.
