Overview:
The Chaubis Avtar Temple is an ancient temple devoted to Lord Vishnu and his 24 Avatars of the day. It was built in the 16th century by the Bundela Rajputs of Kalanaur. The temple is set amidst the beautiful natural environment of the city and is a popular pilgrimage site. The temple is dedicated to the 24 incarnations of Vishnu and has one of the most beautiful idol of Vishnu as seated on the Sheshnag with consorts Radha and Sita on either side. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
• The temple is home to the 24 avatars of Vishnu, each symbolizing one of the 24 hours of the day. • The main idol of the temple is a seated image of Lord Vishnu on a serpent seat. • There are also several inscriptions of the Bundelas Rajputs on the temple walls. • The upper part of the main temple is decorated with attractive carvings of celestial beings and holy symbols. • The temple also has shrines for Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha and many other gods and goddesses.
