Overview:
kesava Temple is a Hindu temple situated in the town of Somnathapura, Karnataka, India. It is believed to have been built in 1268 CE by the Hoysala King Narasimha III. Dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, the temple is an important milestone in the Hoysala art. It is one of the finest examples of the Hoysala architecture. It is part of a larger complex which is Dilwara Temples of Mount Abu. Channakesava Temple This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The main feature of the Channakesava Temple is its star-shaped plan. It consists of three shrines: two for Vishnu and one for Shiva, which is unusual for a Vaishnavite temple. The main shrine is in the form of a tower crowned with an amazing octagonal shikhara (tower). The walls of the temple are adorned with amazing sculptures and carvings of the Hoysala style.
