Chandramouliswara Temple is a popular Hindu temple located in the town of Nattery in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is dedicated to Lord Siva and Lord Vishnu, who are the presiding deities in the temple. The temple has been in existence since the Chola Period, which dates back to the early 10th century. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
This temple is renowned for its magnificent architecture which reflects the grandeur of the Chola kingdom. The temple is characterised by the two full mandapams or twin hallways that form the entrance. The inner hall or garbha griha features a majestic lingam with four faces of Lord Shiva. The temple complex is surrounded by five tier towers, with the tallest tower being 80 feet tall. The exact origin of the temple is not known but it dates back to the early 10th century when the Cholas ruled this region. The temple was renovated and renovated several times by many kings from various dynasties. The temple was also expanded and revised to add more beautiful carvings and sculptures by the kings from the Vijayanagar empire. In 1890, the temple was reconstructed and various renovations and additions were made.
