Overview:
Chamkati Masjid is an ancient mosque located in the city of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, India. The mosque is said to have been built by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in 1658. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
One of the most prominent features of this mosque is the stunning architecture which has a vast dome and three minarets. The main hall of the mosque is decorated with intricate carvings, calligraphy and even silver inlay work. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour
Interesting facts:
The mosque is also known as ‘Chowk Mandal’ due to the fact that there are four large chowks (courtyards) at the four sides of the mosque. There is also a jali or a lattice work around the mosque which is a beautiful feature.
