Overview:
Aurangazeb’s Fort, also known as Bijapur Fort, is an imposing edifice of stone and mortar located in the Deccan Plateau in the northern part of the state of Karnataka, India. It was built by Aurangazeb, the sixth Mughal Emperor, in 1686, and is today a major tourist attraction. The fort stands out for its impressive architecture and various monuments within it at a time when less was known about architecture and sculptures of its kind. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Aurangazeb Fort is made up of red sandstone walls and has two gates, the Chandbazaar Gate to the north and the Delhi Gate to the south. Inside the fort, there are many monuments, including mosques, tombs, staircases and a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva called Lingaraja. Inside there is also the Gagan Mahal, a palace built by Aurangazeb, and an art gallery displaying artifacts from the Mughals, Marathas and other eras. Interesting facts:
The fort is believed to have been constructed in a single phase, with all its features being completed in the first year of its construction. An inscription in Hindu script called ‘Yupa Pillar’ is located near the Dharmaraya Temple in the Bijapur and is said to bear the mark of Aurangazeb, who added his own touches to the fort.Visit one of the famous monuments of India with your friends and family.
