c Society Building is a heritage structure in Kolkata, India. It is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the city, and is located between the Park Street and College Street in Central Kolkata. The building was established in 1804 as the Bengal Asiatic Society which is the first learned society and a podium for oriental studies in India. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Asiatic Society Building is an example of French neo-classical architecture and has been decorated with Corinthian pillars and other ornate designs. The main entrance is adorned with figures of four Indian sages representing four religions of India, ie. Rama, Krishna, Gautam Buddha and Mahavir.
