Arjuna’s Ratha is a beautiful temple complex situated in the coastal town of Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu. Discovered in the 7th century, it is one of the five rathas (chariots) sculpted from the solid granite bricks. It is the largest of the five Rathas located in Mamallapuram. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.

History:

Arjuna’s Ratha is a four-storeyed temple carved into a single granite block. It has been built in a cruciform style with a lion mounted atop the main entrance. The overall height of the temple is around 11 metres and it also features two small shrines of Shiva and Vishnu. A grand hall or a mandapa, which is around 11 metres wide, also exists.
