Paradise Congregational Church was founded by black members of Christ Church on Brattle Street in Cambridge. The church was first organized in 1820 and was known as the “Colored Church in Cambridge.” As the size of the church grew, they outgrew their meeting space and after a few years, they moved to the present location on Magazine Street. They changed their name to “Paradise Congregational Church” at this time. The church continues to hold services in the building, which was built in 1844.
