Bochum has a long and varied Protestant parish history. The first Protestant church in Bochum was built in 1817 and called the„Burgfrieden”. The church quickly became too small and in 1875, it moved to the current location. In the 1920s, parish members of the „Burgfrieden” began to build a new church and the first version of today’s Protestant parish Bochum was established in 1927. During World War II, the parish suffered severely under the Nazi regime and many of its buildings were destroyed. After the war, it was decided to rebuild the parish, which was completed in 1976.
