Uspenski Cathedral is an Eastern Orthodox cathedral located in Helsinki, Finland. It is the largest Orthodox church in Western Europe, dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God. It was built in the Neo-Byzantine style in 1868–1870, and designed by the Russian architect Aleksey Gornostayev. The cathedral is part of the Diocese of Helsinki of the Orthodox Church of Finland. History:

The construction of the cathedral began in May 1868 by the decree of Tsar Alexander II of Russia and it was dedicated to the Dormition of the Theotokos (Our Lady of the Dormition). The cathedral was intended to serve as a reminder of the centuries-old ties between the Grand Duchy of Finland and the Russian Empire, being the centerpiece of the small but vibrant Russian community in Finland.
