St. Olav's Church is a medieval church located in Trondheim, Norway. It is the city's most important church and the most important of all of Norway's surviving Romanesque churches. The church is named after the Norwegian king Olav II, who was canonized in 1164, and is dedicated to him. A rare example of a basilica-style church in Norway, St. Olav's has been a site of Catholic and Pre-Reformation worship since roughly 1150. History:

The church was originally erected in 1031 as a wooden church, but was replaced by the current stone building in Romanesque style between 1090 and 1160. The current building was extended and altered several times during the Middle Ages. The tower was built during the early 13th century and the choir was completed by 1250. The high altar was added in 1270 and the apsis was finished sometime between 1275 and 1290. The distinctive spire of the tower was added in 1634 and the bronze bells were installed in the tower in the 17th century.
