Michael's Church was founded sometime between 1130 and 1140 by the rector, Reginald le Bat. It has had various renovations over the years, including being partially rebuilt in the 1400s. It has also survived two fires, one in 1579 and one in 1816. The original 12th-century chancel is still visible due to the 18th-century rebuild, as is some of the Norman stonework.
