Worship Method:
The worship method of the Lappeenranta Orthodox Church is based upon the Russian Orthodox liturgy. Services are conducted in the local language, Finnish and/or Church Slavonic. Worship is centered around the Divine Liturgy, which includes the Eucharistic celebration and the use of the seven sacraments. The services are conducted according to the laws and traditions set by the Russian Orthodox Church. Services are usually divided into three parts: the Prothesis, the Hours, and the Liturgy. During the Prothesis, the Priest and Deacon prepare the bread, wine, and other items that are to be used in the Altar. This is preceded by the preparatory prayers for the Liturgy. The Hours are (in Russian) the Matins, Hours, ThirdHour, Six Hour, and Typica, which includes the singing of the Troparia. During the service, the faithful recite the third and sixth Psalms in addition to a variety of other prayers including the Lord’s Prayer and other applicable petitions. The Divine Liturgy is the central focus of the worship. It includes both the Consecration of the Gifts and the Communion of the Faithful. During the Communion, hymns are sung and the faithful approach the Altar to take Holy Communion. After the Communion, the Priest and Deacon bless the congregation. Finally, the Dismissals for the service are sung and a brief homily is read. The service concludes with the Dismissal Prayers and the Benediction. The common theme of the worship in any Orthodox Church is that of love and worship to God. This most visited temple in Finland
