Father Herman Nolte, a Priest from the Vincentian congregation, arrived in Anderson, Indiana in 1844 and initiated the founding of Church of the Holy Cross the following year. Father Nolte worked to establish the parish, lay down the St. Vincent's Cemetery, found a dwelling of the Sisters of Providence and contribute to the growth of Anderson. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Finland.
