The origins of the Elim Church in Fiji can be traced back to the early 1960s, when a Fijian evangelist and local pastor, Osea Vasu, began his work in the rural parts of Fiji. Upon his return to Fiji after studying in New Zealand, Pastor Vasu developed an intimate understanding of the Fijian language, culture and culture awareness. He went about preaching the gospel in the northern and eastern parts of the country and the first Elim Church was established in 1966, in the valley of Drodru in the Rewa District of Viti Levu.
