The Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia is a Christian church in the Anglican Communion, formed in 1992. It is made up of three tikanga, or cultural expressions: Maori, New Zealand and Polynesia. Its mission is to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ by living out the gospel in word and deed. The Anglican Church serves communities across Aotearoa/New Zealand, and in the Islands of the South Pacific. It is involved in a variety of ministries, from ongoing pastoral care of parishioners to providing support for migrants, refugees and those affected by climate change. It also engages in social services, education, advocacy and mission across Aotearoa/New Zealand and Polynesia. The Church is made up of bishops, priests and deacons, who are supported by licensed lay ministers and lay people. Since its founding, the Church has been a leader in the movement for social justice.
