Nõmme Orthodox Church of John the Baptist In Estonia: History,Facts, & Services
History:
The church was founded in 1883 by a merchant and a doctor from Kalisi (Kolomyia, Ukraine). The church’s 20th anniversary was celebrated in 1903 and the 25th anniversary was held in 1908. The 30th anniversary was celebrated in 1913, however the celebration was marred by political turmoil and World War I. After the war, the church underwent repairs but Soviet rule began before further renovation was possible. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Estonia.

The church is 80 feet tall, and the bell tower offers a view of the whole city from the top. The church is considered to be a piece of maritime architecture due to its tall shape, inspired by the ships of the old Russian navy. Inside the church are 8th century murals and Orthodox icons. The church also contains artwork by famous Estonian artists.
Services:
The church provides various services such as baptisms, weddings, funerals and Christian education classes. It also hosts traditional concerts, both local and international, as well as occasionally hosting informal gatherings and talks. It is open to the public for sightseeing and visitors are welcome to attend Mass and other services.This beautiful church in Estonia has made a lot of significance in the past.
