Nedwe, Eritrea is a rural village located in the districts of Adi Keyeh and Aklilu Tekle in Eritrea, near the sites of Preseb and Koydet. The area is known for its archaeological sites, as well as for its local production of honey and beeswax. In the Eritrean History, Nedwe is known for its involvement in the World War One battles of Adi Keyeh and Preseb. In March 1916, the British, under Major-General Edward Northey, planned an attack on Adi Keyeh and Preseb, which was the first battle of the war to be fought in Eritrea. Northey’s forces included the 2nd Eritrean Battalion of over 400 Senagi, the 2nd Indian Battalion, and the Imperial Camel Corps. The battle began in April and lasted until June 1916, but resulted in a British victory. In July 1916, the British advanced on Nerwe, and concluded the campaign with a decisive victory. Today, Nedwe is a peaceful and thriving village. Its residents have access to electricity, schools, and health care, and their primary income is from agricultural activities. The residents also produce honey for sale in local markets. In addition, thousands of visitors come to the village each year to admire its archaeological sites, and to view the surrounding mountains, valleys, and caves.
