History:
The congregation was established in 1809, and the first services held at St John's Church were held in 1811. It was part of the "Great Revival" that swept through Kentucky in the 1810s and was popular among Methodists, Baptists and Presbyterians in the area. The congregation and church have remained active ever since, although services have been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in England.

The church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is also a Kentucky Landmark. The church was built with bricks made on-site, and features distinctive white-painted "feather chamfers" on all four sides of the octagonal tower, a feature also seen in old churches in southwestern Virginia.

St John's Church offers traditional Methodist services, as well as a variety of community and fellowship programs. They are actively involved in mission work locally, nationally and internationally.
