St Augustine's was built in 1792 by a local builder. It was originally part of the parochial district of St Bartholomew's in the parish of Birmingham. The parish was formed in 1820, and the church was designated as the parish church. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in England.

The church also has an organ, an elaborate stone reredos, and a silver-gilt chalice that was presented to the church by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
