Parque Duarte is located in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The park was established at the beginning of the twentieth century and it has been a place of leisurely activities and attractions since then. The park was created by then-President José María Cabral, named after the former General and President General Gregorio Luperón Duarte. General Duarte dedicated his life to the independence of the Dominican Republic from Spain, and was highly respected by the citizens. His daughter, Eduviges Duarte Cabral, was also in charge of the development and support of the park over the years. Parque Duarte is the largest public park in the Caribbean and spans across an area of more than 10 hectares. The park is divided into two sections the first one is the Central Park with a heliport, a fountain and a monument dedicated to the Generals Duarte and Cabral, it also has several children’s playgrounds, a library, and a movie theater. The second section is the Jardin Zoologico which is a zoo. The park is open all year round and is visited by many locals and visitors.
