The Zeyrek Mosque, also known as the Monastery of the Pantocrator, is a complex of Byzantine buildings located in the district of Fatih, Istanbul, Turkey. The complex consists of two churches and a monastery and was built in the 12th century by the Byzantine emperor Manuel I Komnenos. The mosque is one of the most important and well-preserved examples of Byzantine architecture in Istanbul and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The complex was originally built as a monastery dedicated to the Archangel Michael but was later altered to include a mosque. The mosque receives its name 'Zeyrek' from the former monastery.
