St James, Ansty is a Grade II listed rural Anglican parish in the Deanery of Dunchurch, Diocese of Coventry, England. Located in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside, the church is dedicated to St James the Great and was built in the early 19th Century.
History
St James in Ansty dates back to 1801 although the current building only dates to 1849. There is evidence to suggest that a church may have stood on the site prior to this, though it is uncertain when it was constructed. The parish was part of the Diocese of Lincoln until it joined the Diocese of Coventry in 1918.
Facts
The church building itself is constructed of locally cut sandstone and is a familiar sight in the village, standing on a large elevated site. It includes a nave and two aisles, and a beautiful tower with a clock and shingle spire. The building also features typical Gothic styling, with pointed arches and decorative tracery in the windows, and a semi-circular lych gate at the entrance.
Services
St James' offers several services each week, including a monthly family service held on the 3rd Sunday of each month. Other regular services include a weekly Eucharist and a monthly choral evensong. Other occasional services are observed throughout the year, including weddings and baptisms.
