Lystrup Kirke is a Medieval church in the small town of Lystrup in Denmark. It is one of the oldest surviving churches in the country and has been well-maintained to preserve its historical and architectural significance. The earliest reference to Lystrup Church dates from 1350, although it is believed to have been built even earlier. The architecture is late Romanesque with a style of wall structure that is very rare in Denmark. The building itself is constructed from clay and bricks and has a typically Danish style with two block towers, two front doors, four round-headed windows and a dome-shaped roof. Lystrup Kirke is a protected historical site and its importance lies in the fact that it is one of the best preserved examples of a medieval church in Denmark. It has been used by locals for religious purposes since the 14th century, making it one of the oldest continuously used churches in the country. The church has also been used as a school since the 16th century, when a small schoolroom was built inside the back wall of the church. The church has several historical and architectural features, including an altar rest which has been dated to around 1400, a baptismal font made of stone, a bell tower and an old wooden carved pulpit. Inside the church, you will find fresco paintings, which were created by painter Nels Johansen in 1986 and depict several Bible stories. Lystrup Kirke offers services to the local community and holds regular services as well as occasional concerts.
