History:

The Færgen Kronborg is a passenger and car ferry service that runs between Helsingør, Denmark and Helsingborg, Sweden. It is operated by FFDS, the Færgen – Færgerne Danmark-Sverige A/S shipping company. The service has roots dating back to the 1500s when the Swedish King, Gustav Vasa, requested that the Swedish navy build a “Great Galleon” to transport people and goods between the two ports. Since then, the route has been operated by various businesses and larger companies as the needs of the region changed. In the early 1900s, the Danish state run “Øresundfærge Service” operated the route using steamships, and they built the first car ferry in 1915, the “Ravnen”, to transport passengers and their cars from Helsingborg to Helsingør. After World War II, the “Øresundfærge Service” was privatized and the modern Færgen Kronborg was born in 1987. The Færgen Kronborg is currently the only direct ferry route connecting Denmark and Sweden across the Øresund strait and is a popular route for both commuters and tourists. It is a modern ferry, equipped with a gift shop, restaurant, outdoor seating, and a children’s playroom, making it well-suited for both short and long journeys.
