The formal start of Elijah's Church is traced to a group that gathered together in Warren, Ohio in 1849. Among the members were two brothers, Elijah and Jacob Stoll. Later, their father, Bishop Christian Stoll, joined the church with other followers and assumed the title of Bishop. In 1855, the Stolls moved to southern Indiana and the movement spread into other states and eventually formed the denomination of Elijah's Church in 1857.
