The Church of St. Anthony of Padua in Czechia is a Roman Catholic parish in Prague, Czech Republic. It was established in 1591 and is named for the popular medieval Franciscan saint Anthony of Padua. The church is the oldest Franciscan church in Prague and has an impressive Baroque sanctuary. It is one of the best churches in Czechia which you must visit.

History:

The church was founded in 1591 after Franciscans from the province of Padua founded a monastery near the Charles Bridge. The monastery served as a base for the Franciscans’ missionary work in the area. A small chapel dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua was included in the monastery. Over time, the monastery and chapel grew in size and became the Church of St. Anthony of Padua. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Czechia.

The exterior of the church is of the classic Bohemian Baroque style. Inside, the church has a large sanctuary with a large altar.
