The Universidad de Oriente - Santiago de Cuba (UDO) is a public university founded in 1930 in Santiago de Cuba, in the eastern region of Cuba. UDOs aim is to promote research, teaching, and the extension of knowledge. It has campuses in all of the eastern provinces, including Las Tunas, Holguin, Granma, Guantanamo, and Camaguey. The history of the UDO goes back to the 1890s when the first secular and professional school was established in Santiago de Cuba. In 1902, the school was converted into what is now known as the University Academy of Santiago de Cuba and five years later, the first degrees were awarded.
