History:

The city of Cahuita is located in the province Limon, in Costa Rica. It is situated on the Caribbean coast and is known for its stunning beaches. This quaint fishing town is home to many Afro-Caribbean people and is well known for its laidback atmosphere and rich culture. It is a popular destination for tourists who come to enjoy the beaches, the variety of wildlife, and relaxation. The history of Cahuita dates back to the late 16th century when the Spanish arrived in Costa Rica and encountered relations with native groups living there. By 1600, the first Spanish settlement had been constructed in the area and the town of Gran Cahuita was established. Over the centuries, the town has seen its fair share of activities, from agriculture to the formation of cacao plantations, to a number of fortifications by the Spanish, to becoming singlehandedly responsible for the production of salt in Costa Rica. In 1882, the railroad was built connecting Cahuita to San Jose, the capital city of Costa Rica. However, the railroad was soon decreed as ruining the ecosystem of the beautiful beach and it was dismantled. In the 20th century, the town experienced further decline when the Banana industry nearly wiped out all of Limon’s rainforest, and Cahuita was no exception. It was only in recent decades that Cahuita underwent a tourism boom and began restoring its beautiful beaches. Today, the city has a population of around 6,500 people and is home to some of the best beaches Costa Rica has to offer. Cahuita is also known for its protective Coral Reefs and its rich marine life. Tourists can visit the Cahuita National Park, where they can explore the reefs, go snorkeling, and view a variety of wildlife, while also enjoying a peaceful beach day. Cahuita is truly a unique place that captures the essence of Costa Rica. You must visit one of these historical places in Costa-Rica on your Costa-Rica tour
