History:

The historic elevator was designed in 1883 by the French engineer Ptolémée Mestral and was inaugurated in 1895. and was operated by the company “Santiago de Chile Inclinada.” Using a rope made of bovine fibers, the elevator was able to lift up to 50 passengers up to a maximum height of 67 meters. During its first years of operation, the teleferico was used to transport materials and people between the two hills of Santiago - Santiago Cereceda and Cerro Cardoner. Over the years, the elevator was modernized to handle larger loads of passengers and materials, with the last substantial renovation taking place in 1994. The current capacity is for 128 passengers, with a slanting length of 495 m and a maximum height of 79.5 m. In 2008, an Articular Mobility System (MFA) was installed on the teleferico, allowing for faster journey times and reducing costs. The renovation also included the introduction of a new car made of glass, offering great panoramic views of the city, which has helped boost tourism.
