The church was founded in 1896 by the Reverend Augustus Nico Bessong and the Reverend Thomas Kom, who led the mission effort of the Scottish Presbyterian Church to Cameroon. Initially, the mission was primarily to reach out to the indigenous peoples with the gospel of Jesus Christ, establishing their first mission station at Ntaghem in the extreme northwest of today's Cameroon. As the mission work progressed, more congregations were established, and The Church and National Presbyteries were established in 1927. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Cameroon.
