On special occasions, such as Vesak and Chinese New Year, a large public prayer session is held at the temple. During these events, Buddhists from all over Phnom Penh and the surrounding area gather for an evening of chanting, offering of food, and chanting of mantras. During these sessions, an elder will read aloud the history of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Afterwards, the assembled Buddhists will recite three times each the Triple Gem of Buddhism, also known as the Three Refuges. The Triple Gem consists of the Buddha and his teachings, the Dharma, and the Sangha. The readings and recitations will be done three times in order to purify the heart and provide protection from evil. Offerings will then be made to the monks and nuns of Wat Srah Chak in order to give thanks and to express good wishes to all in the Buddha family. This most visited temple in Cambodia
