Wat Preah Keo Morokat (Silver Pagoda) is a Buddhist temple located in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Built in the 19th century, it is one of the most important and picturesque temples in the country. It is particularly well-known for its extensive collection of (mostly silver) Buddha statues and its extensive grounds. It is considered a symbol of the city and its name translates to “the Victory in front of the emerald Buddha.” It is one of the best churches in Cambodia which you must visit.

History:

 The temple was originally constructed in the 1600s but was renovated in 1962 and renamed from Wat Ubosoth Ratanaram to Wat Preah Keo Morokat. During this renovation, 5,000 silver tiles were installed on the Chapel of the Emerald Buddhas (the main building) for which the temple is now known (the Silver Pagoda). This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Cambodia.

 The Silver Pagoda complex covers an area of 27,000m² and is home to several other structures, including the Royal Palace and the National Museum. The Silver Pagoda grounds also feature a monument to King Norodom and a Memorial to King Norodom Sihanouk.
